Benartex, Bernina, Quilter's Resource and Scholastic announce...
"The Quiltmaker's Gift" Quilt Challenge
Once there was a king who had everything in the world. (Well, almost everything--- he didn't have a quilt!) Those of you who have read the "Quiltmaker's Gift," the best selling book by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail de Marcken, know the rest of the story. If you haven't read the book, look for a copy--- you're in for a treat!
Now Benartex, Bernina, Quilter's Resource and Scholastic have teamed up to announce an unusual quilt contest, designed to challenge your imagination and encourage a new generation of quiltmakers everywhere.
THE CHALLENGE:
In keeping with the theme of generosity, make a quilt that YOU WILL GIVE to someone else when the challenge is over. It may be a quilt for a family member. Or perhaps it will be a quilt for a special friend or neighbor. It can even be a quilt that will be given to a complete stranger or worthwhile charity. Each quilt must be accompanied by the name of the person or charity for whom it is made, and the reason that person or charity was chosen.
THE CATEGORIES:
You may enter into any one of the following categories:
- "Anything Goes." The quilts in this category may be pieced, appliqud, or a combination of both and may be hand or machine quilted. It must be the work of one person only. Traditional or contemporary-this is your opportunity to show your talents!
- Quilts Started in a Quilt Shop. Perhaps you have always wanted to sign up for a Beginner's class in your local quilt shop. (Or suppose you are an experienced quilter who wants to learn a new skill!) This is your category. The only rule here is that the quilt must be started in a quilt class. Now is your time to visit your local shop and ask them for details on how you can make a quilt using the Quiltmaker's Gift fabric.
- Adaptation of a quilt block design from "The Quiltmaker's Gift" book. Choose any of the wonderful block or quilt designs in the book.
Prizes for each of the above categories are:
- First Prize: Three complete collection boxes from Benartex ($600 retail value)
