Mary Lou Weidman

I began quilting in 1974. After many years of making traditional quilts, I was determined to try my hand at developing my own style. Using my art background, I decided to put people, animals and some of my favorite things into a folk story format. This began in about 1988 and I am still continuing to develop my style.

In 1997 I came out with my first book, "Whimsies and Whynots: A Playful Approach to Quiltmaking," and designed my first fabric line for In the Beginning Fabrics. This line featured my favorite image of a lady holding a sign that reads "will work for fabric." This was also the year that I founded my pattern company, Mary Lou and Company.

My second book, "Everyday Angels in Extraordinary Quilts" came out in 1998, as well as two new lines of fabrics for In the Beginning Fabrics.

I am really excited about the "Krazy Kats and Mary Lou, Too" collection just produced with Benartex. Wait until you see the colors! We've really had fun working with it.
