Linda Carlson
Linda (right in photo) earned a Bachelor of Science in Education
degree in vocal music and elementary education, teaching both
disciplines for 11 years. Eventually she combined her love of
teaching and quilting classes nationally and internationally since
the 1980s. She specializes in hand applique and machine piecing.
She has spoken at the Smithsonian Institute, and taught seminars
At Sea by Faye Doyle. Linda's favorite style is the 4-block quilt,
which led to her definitive research and resulting three books
on its historical and ethnic significance. Her other book, Quilting
To Soothe The Soul: Create Memories For Today, Tomorrow &
Forever explores how quiltmakers use quilts and textiles
to aid in life's celebrations and sorrows. For her workshops,
lectures and available books, please visit www.lindacarlsonquilts.com.
Researching child development led to the joint creation of "Baby
Geniuses" fabric collection with her artist twin sister,
Diana Henage. The research concentrated on brain development among
infants, and how certain graphics and colors stimulate growth
of brain synapses. This scientifically proven fact affords parents
the opportunity to enhance their babies intelligence. The result
is a versatile 29 piece collection that mesmerizes everyone---
from young children through 'tweens, to even contemporary art
quiltmakers!
Diana Henage
Diana (left in photo) is the designer artist of the duo. She combines
a teaching career of 33 years in Art Education, both Elementary
and Secondary classroom experience with 20 years of Gifted Education
to create bright, bold and whimsical graphics in the Baby Genius
fabric line. She holds a Specialist Degree in Curriculum and Instruction
emphasizing Gifted Education from the University of Missouri,
Columbia. Diana also authored the text, Gifted Behavioral Intervention
Rating Scale and Manual for Teachers. After retiring from teaching
in 2005, Diana is currently a full-time paralegal at a local law
firm and continues to design in her spare time!
Alayna Henage, Diana’s youngest grandchild of three is the
baby model for the Baby Genius logo. Alayna served as the
‘test pilot’ for the line proving that the intense
colors and graphic patterns drew and kept her attention, thus
increasing her powers of concentration necessary for creative
thinking and reasoning. Diana says, “Our work is a collaborative
effort. Linda knows the quilt world and textile requirements.
I put the ink brush to the paper and paint what I envision. We
work well together and laugh a lot throughout the creative process!”
